Yet Another Amusing Anecdote

Not really. Psyche. Gotcha'. You might be wondering to yourself: "What happened to Will's blog? It used to be fascinating and filled with interesting thoughts on life, the universe, and everything. Now it's just inane stories of dubious merit." And you'd be right. Basically, here's what went down: Things happened. I didn't want to talk about them. Still don't. Simple as that, really. In the meantime, I'll share a few things that I have been doing and thinking about for the past few months.

1) I finally got around to reading Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. Decken was right, it was a fantastic book. For those of you who are uninitiated, Neil Gaiman (author of such classics as Sandman, Neverwhere, Stardust, and American Gods), returned to the world of American Gods for another tale of deities and their (more or less) mortal children. American Gods, while a work of genius, was somewhat cold and slightly dark. Anansi Boys, by contrast, is a much warmer book, with a bit more humor. I won't spoil either of these books for you, and will only say: READ BOTH OF THEM. It doesn't matter what order you choose, as they both stand alone nicely.

2) I did a bit of returning to my philosophical roots with the next two selections, namely The Philosophy of the Undead: Chicken Soup for the Soulless, and Philosphy of Monty Python: Nudge, Nudge, Think, Think. Both are filled with some of my favorite things: philosophy, zombies, and the Spanish Inquisition.

3) Work continues to go well. There is no shortage of things to do, and I am subtly making them wish that they had given me a laptop instead of my monstrous beast of a desktop. Yeah, my machine (MY MACHINE!) is fast like a mo-fo, but it definitely lacks in the portability department, especially with the dual 19" CRT monitors that I have hooked up to it.

4) I saw Fearless, purportedly Jet Li's final martial arts film. I'll believe that after he's dead. I think it might be a more Michael Jordan-style retirement that he just comes out of every few years. At any rate, this movie is definitely one for those of you who, like me, love the kung fu action. In addition to the fantastic fight scenes, there's a bit of dramatic weight added to all of it that makes the fights worthwhile.

5) In a similar vein, I recently took in House of Flying Daggers, a film that is filled with, well, flying daggers. They are as beautiful as they are deadly, which is to say, exceedingly so. It's by the same director who did Hero, which was definitely a cut above the standard martial arts fare, filled as it was with political intrigue, drama, and a splash of metaphysics.

4) Some of the guys at work are starting an indoor soccer team, which I have decided to join. We haven't decided on a name yet, but we're hoping to go with "Straight Up Midfield Killa's." Somehow, I don't think Fred will go for that, though...

So yeah, that's a superficial State of the Will address. For the stuff that was too classified to reveal in public forum, just, you know, talk to me. That's generally what we did before the internet.
