Holy Shit!

Literally. Last night, Justin came over and we watched some hardcore Walker: Texas Ranger because we're trashy like that. After a brief jaunt to the one restaurant open at 11:30 PM on a Sunday night in Spokane, we were discussing friends of ours. I mentioned that my esteemed mentor, DMZ, is at seminary. I then proceeded to speculate about going to visit whatever parish he eventually gets assigned to and then regale his parishioners with tales of his ribald exploits in college, thus making it awkward for all involved. Then, this morning, as I was checking my mail, I noticed that he had sent me some pics of him in a clerical and my mind exploded. He was looking so respectable. Damnit, it's as if he has left the dark side for good! This hurts my soul. Nonetheless, I wish you luck, David Matthew Zemke. Just don't wear that get-up around me and I'll be fine.

Will,
I haven't necessarily left the dark side. Its just a uniform. I get glares from my classmates as I castigate them for their poor thought processes and shoddy arguments. Think of it more like a portly german beer drinker in sheeps clothing... I mean...
Seriously though, I'm keepin it alive over here... just need a few more philosophical beer drinking buddies.
Oh, and my middle name is not Matthew.

It just feels like a betrayal, is all. It's like if a lifelong jewish friend showed up in a nazi uniform "just to fit in." Said friend could still go to synagogue and continue all his traditions, but that uniform still makes it quite strange. And what are people going to call you? And of course, you beg the question "what is your middle name, then? Mark? Matthias? Mordred? Milton? Merle? Marcus? Manny? Melvin? Morton? Something else?"

Actually it is Michael. If I didn't have the german last name you would think I was Irish Catholic or something. "David Michael O'Malley... pleased te' meet ya! Just wait til I get me hands on some o' them lucky charms!"
Ok, I guess I can quit making fun of the Irish now.

You learn something new every day, I guess.
