Its not some much the giant robots as the human sized ones. There is no way you could know that you had a "Stepford" wife or, for that matter, "Stepford" friends. Even more interesting is how do you know that you aren't a robot? Its like a hybrid "brain in a vat" thing. There is no way to disprove it because disproving it would very likely involve a full disection of you... which you shouldn't be around for. Even odder is the thought that we are all robots and that there is no "human". DMZ PS I'm a wee bit tipsy right now!
I hadn't guessed. As to the whole "could you tell" bit, there is the possibility of x-rays revealing it to others. However, if robots were constructed by means of nano-machines, it would be quite difficult to ascertain. Furthermore, you might be programmed in such a way that you would never acknowledge evidence of robot-kind, there would be no way of knowing. As to the last scenario you raise, if there is no such thing as "humans", the distinction between the two is virtually meaningless. Practically speaking, it would just be a name change.
