It has happened!
Well, it's my birthday, and damn does it feel good. Tonight, I'm going out with a bunch of my friends, and we are going to put a serious dent in the alcohol supplies of Spokane. Should be a roaring good time, say I! In other news, I recently started Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson, and I must say that I find it most enjoyable. It deals with the conflict between Sir Isaac Newton and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz over the invention of Calculus. My only question concerns Enoch Root, who also appeared in Cryptonomicon. How does this guy survive over 300 years? Is he immortal? I think it adds an interesting element to the whole thing. I believe that just about covers things on this end.
Update!
Well, I have just returned from the so-called "21-run" and must say that it was quite enjoyable. First of all, it was a triumvirate 21 run, in that there were three of us who turned 21 on the same night (Butcher, Paul, and myself). Second, we had a good group of people around us (Brandt, Molson, Gwen, Allison, Greg, Dweezy, Hickock, Brit, Jordan, Tobias, Alejandro, Sarah A., Sarah B., Anna, Logan, Aaron, Annie, and Rita). We began the evening at O'Daugherty's Irish Pub, a mighty fine establishment where we had a good meal and a few drinks. As a part of tradition, Paul, Butch and I sang on the bar. Initially, I had hoped to sing "The Bruce's Philosopher Song," but it was ruled that we would all sing together, and so we thus settled for the lowest common denominator ("I'm a little Tea-Pot"). All I can say is, it was Butcher's idea. While at O'Daugherty's, I had a Guinness, a Scotch, and a shot of Jager. Let this be a message to all: Jager is damned nasty stuff. After all the under-21 folks had left to go their sundry ways, we moved on to Fast Eddie's, a place that is perhaps one of the most overrated, undercleaned places I have had the misfortune of visiting. One generally goes to Fast Eddie's for one reason, and one reason only, that being to spin the wheel. I only got five bucks there, though, so it basically amounted to a rum and coke. From there, we hopped across the street to the Globe, a classy establishment. However, one of the guys with us was a Mexican exchange student, and they wouldn't accept his international student ID as valid, so we decided to just leave and head on to the Blue Spark. First, it must be noted that it took some time to get parked. We elected to park in this pay lot, and hope that nobody came around to check. However, there was a line outside the bar, so we had to wait to get in. Upon getting in, I ordered a McTarnahan's Black Watch (the Scottish answer to Guinness), a Vodka drink, and an Apple Jack. After that, we went back home. Thus it is that here I sit in a slightly inebriated state writing about the events of the evening. Make of them what you will, but I'm going to bed now.
